Breathe Green offers several solutions for people serious about long term options for getting rid of mold in their crawlspace. The Foam Encapsulation Procedure is a great permanent solution to crawlspace problems. The first step is removing the nasty old fiberglass insulation and hauling it off. Step two is the tedious task of using an anti-microbial detergent to wipe down all the joists. When needed a crawlspace dehumidifier is installed to bring down the moisture content in the wood to an acceptable level. Once the wood is prepped and dry enough, we have ICYNENE Spray Foam Insulation installed on the undercarriage of the home. Not just between the joists, but on the whole undercarriage, even the bottom of the joist is coated. "Warm wood is happy wood" says Dr. Joseph W. Lstiburek, Ph.D, P.Eng., Fellow ASHRAE. Dr. Lstiburek wrote a great article entitled "New Light for Crawlspaces" for the INSIGHT section of Building Science and prescribed this exact solution for crawlspaces. Warm wood is happy wood, because it is dry wood. Traditional building methods that have been used for years are not adequate for homes built in the southeast US. The relative humidity and vapor pressure issues simply don't allow the wood to stay dry enough to keep the wood moisture content down below 15% where it needs to be. This solution will be the end of the problems in the crawlspace.

REMEDIATION SOLUTIONS
Breathe Green doesn't just do crawlspaces, although there are times when our knees and backs feel like that is all we do! We offer non-emergency mold remediation solutions for homes, offices, commercial properties. Non-emergency meaning we are not the fire/water restoration guys that come in the green truck in the middle of the night because your hot water heater leaked all over your floor and carpets. The bulk of our non-crawlspace work is from investigative work done during inspections to find the mold source and eliminate the moisture problem associated with the source. Moisture is the one factor we have control over. We can remove contaminated materials like drywall, paneling, carpet, etc... and in many cases clean the structural members such as the studs and get them dried out. In some cases, we may have to gut a room completely, in some cases we may not have to do anything but clean the affected area.
